We are Living On A Star is inspired in part by handmade textiles including American quilts and Islamic tiling, while the color palette is inspired by the big blue skies of Texas and its sparkling swimming holes and vast horizons. Created with hand-cut, glazed Elgin butler brick. The design is tied to the proportions of a standard size brick but finds surprising freedom in its constraints. The precision of the brick is tempered by a painterly use of color and juxtapositions of pattern.
Commissioned by Intelligentsia Coffee for their 3rd and Shoal Coffee Bar with Magic Architecture in 2019. 23 feet x 25 feet.
