Painted Courtyards is a series of works created for the Women’s and Children’s Tower at University Health, San Antonio. Large-scale works were designed and created to mark each of the building’s 12 elevator hallways. Originally painted on paper by hand, the works were digitized and collaged to create rich and lush works, printed on glass by Forms + Surfaces for superiority of both image and durability.
The artworks that make up Painted Courtyards series are visual celebrations of nature, handmade textiles and color. Just as a courtyard offers welcome and protection, presenting the pleasures of nature and design, the works here – placed at the threshold of each floor – greet patients, families and visitors, offering a place of healing and respite.
Painted Courtyards present visions of Texas in bloom – from the deserts of West Texas to Central Texas’s crystal rivers and South Texas’s gulf coast – that are as diverse and expansive as they are wild and welcoming.
